Sometimes You Just Want to Sew: My Honor and Valor Quilt

Sometimes you want to carefully choose your fabrics, coordinate colors, measure, cut, and spend hours getting everything ready.

And sometimes... you just want to sew!

That was one of the things I loved about making Honor and Valor, a precut quilt kit from The Fabric Hut. The fabric was already cut and ready to go. This meant I could skip hours at the cutting table and get right to the fun part—actually sewing!

Watching It Come Together

This quilt was so much fun to piece. The red and white stripes create a wonderful sense of movement, while the star blocks form the blue field of the American flag.

One of my favorite parts of making any quilt is laying out the blocks and finally seeing what all those individual pieces are going to become. With Honor and Valor, watching the flag emerge as I put everything together was especially satisfying.

The kit came together easily. Before long, I had a finished quilt top ready for borders. Then it was time for my other favorite part: getting it on the longarm!

Choosing the Quilting

For this quilt, the pantograph choice seemed pretty obvious.

Stars, of course! ⭐

I used the Star digital edge-to-edge pantograph from Pro-Stitcher. The design combines stars with a loose, flowing meander. I love the way it looks on this quilt!

Star Pantograph

The stars tie in beautifully with the patriotic theme. The meandering lines add movement and texture without competing with the piecing.

This is exactly what I look for when choosing an edge-to-edge design. I don't necessarily want the quilting to be the first thing you notice—I want it to feel like it belongs there. Up close, you get to discover all those quilted stars. From a distance, you see the flag.

For me, that's a win!

And Here She Is!

Finished Quilt

I absolutely love how this quilt turned out.

Apparently, I'm not the only one! I've already had more than one person ask if they can have it. 😂

I'm not sure where Honor and Valor will eventually end up, but for now, I'm enjoying having it around.

The Joy of Precut Kits

This project also reminded me how much I appreciate a good precut kit. I love choosing fabric and planning quilts, but sometimes it's wonderful to open a kit, sit down at the sewing machine, and just sew.

Less time cutting means more time quilting. I'm definitely on board with that!

Have a Quilt Top Waiting to Be Finished?

If you've already done the piecing but need some help getting your quilt across the finish line, I'd love to quilt for you.

At PK Quilt Works, I offer digital edge-to-edge longarm quilting. I can help you choose a pantograph and thread that complement your quilt—or you can leave those decisions entirely up to me!

Whether your quilt calls for stars, a flowing meander, something with lots of beautiful texture, or simply a design that lets the piecing shine, we'll find something that feels just right.
