About me

IMG_3888.jpeg

Hi, I'm Karen, the owner and longarm quilter behind PK Quilt Works, a home-based longarm quilting studio in Menifee, California.

I’ve been quilting for about 15 years, and what started as a creative hobby quickly became something I truly love. There’s just something special about taking beautiful fabrics, cutting them into smaller pieces, and somehow putting them all back together to create something completely new.

About a year ago, I added longarm quilting to my quilting journey, and I fell in love with the process of taking a finished quilt top and helping bring it across the finish line. I love seeing how the right quilting design can add movement, texture, and personality while still letting the piecing—and all the work that went into it—shine.

And if you’re wondering where PK came from, there’s a story behind that too! A friend started calling me PK, short for “Purple Karen,” as a way to distinguish me from another Karen in our friend group. Purple happens to be a favorite of mine, the nickname stuck, and eventually it found its way into the name of my quilting business.

As a quilter myself, I understand just how much time, thought, and love can go into making a quilt top. Whether your quilt is destined for your own bed, a new baby, a wedding, a special gift, or simply made because you couldn't resist that fabric, I know it matters to you. When you send your quilt to me, my goal is simple: to treat it with the same care I would want someone to give one of my own.

I’d be honored to help you turn your finished quilt top into a finished quilt you’ll love.

A Little More About Me

💜 Purple is definitely my color.

If the name “Purple Karen” didn’t already give it away, purple is my favorite color—and chances are, you'll find a little (or a lot!) of it in my quilting space.

🧩 My favorite part of making a quilt?

Laying out the finished blocks! I love that moment when all those individual blocks finally come together and I get to see what the quilt is going to become. It’s one of those moments that never gets old.

📚 By day, I’m a teacher.

When I’m not quilting, I’m a full-time special education teacher working with high school students and teaching algebra. Apparently, I really like figuring out how all the pieces fit together—whether they're quilt blocks or equations!

❤️ Family is a big part of my life.

I’m a mom of four and a grandma to five wonderful grandchildren. Between teaching, family, quilting, and running my longarm business, life stays pretty full—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
